Prom[p]t Treasure Hunting

Peg and I were co-workers at Morris Area High School until I resigned to launch Prom[p]t with my partners. Over the years Peg and I have had several discussions about personal growth and the different modalities that have influenced our journey. When I shared Prom[p]t with Peg, she was full of questions and excitement, even when Prom[p]t was still an idea yet to come to fruition.  When our online store went live, Peg was one of our first customers. Peg shares her thoughts on her experience with Prom]p]t here and on her blog:

Hello!

I teach at a high school.  This week has been transitional.  We’ve celebrated graduation and the end of the school year.  We’ve cleaned out our rooms to allow for construction to occur, submitted student grades, and checked out.

My teaching assignment includes several college-in-the-schools courses.  The psychology course I teach is through Southwest Minnesota State University located in Marshall, Minnesota.  On our final work day, I traveled to Marshall to meet with my supervising professor where we met for several hours finishing up and preparing for next year.

Previously, I mentioned that I take free online courses through different colleges and universities.  Currently, I am working on completing Transmedia Storytelling: Narrative worlds, emerging technologies, and global audiences through the University of South Wales.  I am enjoying it a great deal and plan to utilize some of the concepts in my history courses next fall.

Like you, I stay busy!  Journaling helps me flush out the events of my days.  I find that it really helps me to deal with whatever may come.

Do you journal?  Do you do something similar?

Because I journal, a dear friend kept me apprised of her spiritual and business venture.  She is a partner of Andrea & Co. The product created by this cohort is a journaling set called Deep Awakenings.  As soon as it was ready to be presented publicly, I ordered my set.

This may be a bit odd, but I am a bit tactile--almost ceremonial.  I love the box that contains the journaling set. It opens like a gift box for jewelry or a watch.  To date, every time I open the box, I feel as though a treasure is about to be revealed. I have not been disappointed!

Before I wrote my first journaling response, I read the advice as to how to approach the journaling experience.  The advice I adhere to includes the following:

  • Set aside some quiet time.

  • Find a space that allows you to think freely.

  • Don’t worry about writing well-structured sentences or paragraphs--just write.  Write continuously.

  • Let your brain take you wherever it happens to take you.  Flush out whatever comes into your mind.

So, that is what I have done.  What have I taken from these experiences?

Well, my first experience frustrated me.  It wasn’t because I found no value in the process, it was because the process made me hold a conversation with myself that maybe I’d been putting off or didn’t realize I needed to have.  Instead of finding no value in the process, I found the process invaluable!

My most recent experience dealt with the concept of “my authentic self”.  This was more thought-provoking than frustrating. I enjoyed it.

I am 55-years-old.  I am embracing my age and appreciating what this period of my life offers.  I want a life that focuses on love, gratitude, and growth. Journaling has become an integral part of it.  In some way, journaling with the Deep Awakenings set has been like holding a deep conversation with a close friend.  Sometimes the conversations are over a cup of coffee and others...a glass of wine. It doesn’t seem to matter, I feel as though I’ve come to know myself better because I have taken some extra time to do so.  Not everything I learn about myself I want to admit to publicly. One thing I am okay sharing is that I like me. Oh, I have scars, room for growth, and imperfections. However, I work hard, try to treat others well, and love with all my heart!

What do you do to get to know yourself?  I have some friends that use gardening to do it while others use exercise and music.

I would say that to date, the Deep Awakenings journal set from Prom[p]t has been a good investment in myself.

Peg
