4 Women, 2 Events, 1 Weekend
This fall, I was able to coordinate my summer trip home to Wisconsin with our 2 largest events, The Women and Spirituality Conference in Rochester, MN and the Addiction and Faith Conference in Bloomington, MN. I was fortunate to assist at each of them and get the rich experiences that each had to offer.
I was struck by the diversity of our country at the Addiction and Faith Conference as participants strolled passed wearing name tags representing over 32 states! It was such a pleasure to meet and talk to so many people from all over the country working to help those struggling with addictions. There were many groups represented including churches, social service agencies, volunteer organization, and individuals seeking tools to assist. People stopped to chat about retreats, journal groups they are running, programs and counseling opportunities. It was such an honor to be present with such a rich and humble group of people.
I did not get the opportunity to spend as much time at the Women and Spirituality Conference, but what I did experience was equally exhilarating. Women gathered to share healing stories, practices and tools. Women met and connected and created relationships that will last long after the Conference ends. At the end of the Conference, the vendors gathered to give thanks for the weekend. We engaged in a parting activity of looking, no, seeing, into the eyes of the other women present. As tears streamed down my cheeks during this process I recognized the greater connection we, as individuals, have with all of humanity.
I am always grateful for my time spent in Wisconsin reconnecting with my family and my friends. And this trip was something extra special that I humbly give thanks for!
Did you attend either of these events? If so, what was your experience like?
Love,
Melissa
